    Position Description

    Kinney Group is looking for a creative, focused, self-driven Automation Engineer who has a passion for configuration management, process automation, and is customer-focused.  The successful team member will build and deploy automation frameworks that promote reusable components, low maintenance costs, high efficiency, and scalability.  Team members are eager to learn in areas outside of their expertise and are driven to learn material and skills in areas of emerging technology.  The ideal candidate will responsible for working together with a team to deliver on customer requirements for information technology configuration management automation systems.


    The Automation Engineer will be exposed to a number of automations techniques, including supporting applications and architecture. Furthermore, the Automation Engineer should have creativity and excellent insights into other automations solutions that will work best for specific customer technical requirements.


    The Automation Engineer should be an excellent listener and facilitate technical discussion among the engineering team. This may require modulation of communication style to be in-line with other Kinney Group employees. The Automation Engineer must be detail-oriented, well organized, and be able to manage multiple and competing assignments. The Automation Engineer should also be a strong team player within Kinney Group and maintain a high sense of urgency and initiative. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is excited to learn about cutting edge technologies. The position requires creative thinking with a focus on delivering value to the customer.


    The Automation Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day design, installation, and post-installation sustainment activities in support of Kinney Group customer data center automation efforts.  The Automation Engineer is expected to demonstrate expertise in the technology and processes that govern their daily work. The Automation Engineer is also responsible for maintaining the automations needed to support Kinney Group lab processes and to make recommendations to leadership of new techniques and products that provide improvements to Kinney Group and our customers.

    Desired Skills & Experience

    • Must have an Associates Degree at minimum in a related field
    • Development and/or advanced scripting experience (Ruby, Python, Perl, Java, KSH, VB script, etc)
    • Intermediate to advanced Windows/Unix Systems Administration experience a must
    • Puppet knowledge (module development, understanding of hiera, understands the core architecture of Puppet)
    • Programming or operations background but interested in Consulting with Puppet/DevOps
    • Clearance Requirement: minimum Secret; preferred TS and eligible for TS/SCI
    • Ability to travel 75%
    • Ideally located in Indianapolis
    • Prior federal work experience and/or military experience
    • Programming concepts and development lifecycle technologies and methodologies
    • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills with both the technical and non-technical customer facing audience
    • Intermediate to advanced Windows/Unix Systems Administration experience a must
    • Has integrated multiple systems using one or more of the technologies mentioned above
    • Highly motivated, fast and proactive learner, enterprising, excellent team player, also able to work autonomously
    • Ability to work both independently and within a high functioning team environment

    Preferred Skills:

    • Puppet certified professional
    • Linux+ certification
